It's been a while since I last joined a marathon. Together with my mom and dad, we went to the Quirino Grandstand for the Hyundai Run For a Cause, a run for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga Center for Social Innovation (GK-CSI), St. Scholastica’s Priory, Habitat for Humanity, and the Haribon Foundation.
It was already 5:30 in the morning and we were hoping that we wont be late for the gun start. Luckily, we arrived just in the nick of time. Wave E just started and Wave F (our wave group) was about to begin.
Equipped with my stroller and 2 pieces of pandesal, I was ready for this monumental event. The gun fired and we started running (I mean dad started running). After two (2) kilometer of running, dad experienced numbness on his left arms, then left leg and as we approached the final kilometer dad experienced numbness on his left face. So dad decided to take a rest and went to the First Aid Station (dad's note: thank God that the organizers had first aid stations every 500m).
While I was waving and clapping at the same time, I did not realized that there was something wrong with my dad. Thankfully, nothing serious about it and it was not a sign of stroke. The day before the event, dad went home around half past one in the morning of Saturday so he got only 2 or 3 hours of sleep. Anyway, we finished the race 58.19 minutes way below our 30 minutes average time for a 5 kilometer run.
Registration was free that is why more than 20,000 runners joined this event. Hyundai promised to hold another free run and we will join this again, hopefully dad is fit enough to join (dad's note: I'll make sure that the incident wont happen again, it was so embarrassing, ha ha ha).
